You coordinate work across departments and need portfolios, goals and workload views that non-technical teams will actually use. Asana is strong at cross-functional visibility. You are paying for that breadth whether or not you use it.
Choose Trello if…
Your work genuinely is a list of cards moving through columns, and you want zero onboarding cost. Trello is the best in the world at that shape of work and a poor fit for anything that needs a timeline.

Yes. Trello Standard is $5 per user per month billed annually and Premium is $10. Asana Starter is $10.99 billed annually with a 2-seat minimum. Trello's free tier is also more usable for a small team.
When should I move from Trello to Asana?
When you need to see work as a timeline, track dependencies, or report across projects. Trello has none of those at any tier. If you are adding Power-Up after Power-Up, you have outgrown it.
Is Asana harder to use than Trello?
Yes. Trello has almost nothing to learn. Asana asks you to think in projects, sections and rules, which pays off when the work is complex and is overkill when it is not.
